The pool lining and perimeter finish are kept as separate materials. Interior tiles are estimated by area and do not constitute a floor-and-wall layout. The calculation assumes a rectangle, flat floor and constant depth; it excludes steps, slopes, overflow details, junctions, waterproofing and special corner pieces.

Calculation method

Floor = length × width. Walls = 2 × (length + width) × depth. The allowance is then applied to the combined internal area.

Separate sections

Internal lining is reported in m². Coping is calculated as a band in m² and drip edge as length and pieces.

Site verification

Measure steps, benches, slopes, junctions, overflow details and every special piece outside the rectangular basin separately.

basin = length × width + 2 × (length + width) × depth; coping = outer rectangle − inner opening

Worked example

An internal basin measuring 8 × 4 × 1.5 m has a 32 m² floor and 36 m² of walls: 68 m² net. With a 10% allowance, the lining order is 74.8 m². Coping or drip-edge pieces are calculated separately.

Common mistakes

  • Using external dimensions instead of the internal basin dimensions.
  • Adding coping and submerged lining as though they were the same product.
  • Forgetting steps, benches, slopes, overflow details or variable depths.
  • Treating a geometric quantity as validation of the waterproofing and adhesive system.
