Product standard + manufacturer data sheet

Interpret the class first. Calculate consumption second.

The designation describes declared performance; the product data sheet defines use, preparation and consumption. Neither replaces validation of the complete system.

EN 12004-1 classification

Read performance classes, not product names.

Enter the designation declared on the packaging or data sheet. CalcuCeram explains each symbol, but it does not select an adhesive or turn a class into automatic suitability.

EN 12004-1C2TES1

C2TES1: Cementitious adhesive; improved performance; reduced slip; extended open time; deformable.

Family
C · Cementitious adhesiveProduct based on hydraulic binders, prepared with water or another liquid specified by the manufacturer.
Performance
2 · Improved performanceMeets the additional performance requirements for its family; the relevant tests are not identical for C, D and R.
Optional characteristics
  • T · Reduced slipLimits tile slip during installation, which is especially relevant on vertical surfaces.
  • E · Extended open timeDeclares extended open time for cementitious or dispersion adhesives.
  • S1 · DeformableCementitious adhesive with transverse deformation of at least 2.5 mm and less than 5 mm.

The designation describes declared performance. It does not by itself demonstrate suitability for a project or automatically recommend a product: review every technical criterion and the applicable system data sheet.

The class is not enough: check eight criteria

  1. 01
    Substrate

Identify material, stability, cohesion, flatness, moisture, preparation and any required primer.

  2. 02
    Tile and format

Check tile type, absorption, actual dimensions, weight, backing and any mesh or reinforcement.

  3. 03
    Wall or floor

Distinguish vertical from horizontal surfaces, loads, permissible slip and return-to-service conditions.

  4. 04
    Interior or exterior

Assess weather exposure, thermal cycles, frost, wind, solar exposure and working times.

  5. 05
    Water and immersion

Distinguish splashes, frequent moisture, water pressure and continuous immersion; verify waterproofing as a separate system.

  6. 06
    Movement and temperature

Check underfloor heating, thermal shock, vibration, deformable substrates and differential movement.

  7. 07
    Coverage and technique

Define trowel, thickness, single or back-buttered application, required coverage, ambient conditions and actual open time.

  8. 08
    Territorial data sheet and system

Check the class against the current data sheet and declaration, the complete system, the project and the references applicable in Spain or France.

This tool explains a standard classification; it does not recommend products. Final selection depends on the substrate, tile, environment, complete system, installation method and current documents for the project territory.
